Flow-Based Rip Current Detection and Visualization

چکیده
Rip currents are like rivers of fast-moving water that can quickly carry the unwary out to sea. They not easy recognize, especially untrained observer. Other than in-situ current measurements, there exists a number methods analyzes images and videos detect rip currents. Most these techniques base their detection on appearance such as foamy pattern, discoloration water, locations breaking waves. Leading use either image processing or machine learning and/or video input. In this paper, we analyze behavior movement rather simply its Specifically, investigated several flow visualization tune them Based our study, recommend two allowed us where other have failed. And because originated techniques, any presence automatically highlighted. We also evaluated against previously annotated results by experts, found detections were sufficiently sensitive some expert annotations relabeled.

Detecting and Visualizing Rip Current Using Optical Flow
Rip current are fast moving and narrow currents that are strongest near the beach. They are dangerous not only for novice but also experienced swimmers. Once caught in the current, the flow of the water pulls the person away from the beach. Many people in panic try to swim against the current and end up drowning due to exhaustion since these currents are usually faster than the speed at which o...
متن کاملRCEX: Rip Current Experiment
The long-term goals are to understand surf zone processes related to rip current systems through field observations. Rip currents occur commonly on most beaches and dominate many. It is recognized that beaches with straight and parallel contours are not a stable morphologic configuration whereas more complex beaches, which support the existence of rip current morphology, are stable and more com...
متن کاملRip current review
Rip currents are shore-normal, narrow, seaward-flowing currents that originate within surf zone, extend seaward of the breaking region (rip head), and can obtain relatively high velocities. Within the last decade, there have been a significant number of laboratory and field observations within rip current systems. An overview of rip current kinematics based on these observations and the scienti...
متن کاملWave Breaking and Rip Current Circulation
This paper examines the effect of current-induced breaking on the modeling of wave breaking dissipation near rip currents. Simulations using a set of existing wave transformation models are compared to existing laboratory measurements made on a bar/channel topography in the presence of both strong and weak rip currents. The model/data comparisons demonstrate that existing models can effectively...
متن کاملSurface-based flow visualization
With increasing computing power, it is possible to process more complex fluid simulations. However, a gap between increasing data size and our ability to visualize them still remains. Despite the great amount of progress that has been made in the field of flow visualization over the last two decades, a number of challenges remain. Whilst the visualization of 2D flow has many good solutions, the...
